For many countries biotechnology is becoming key direction for economic development. Biotechnology has significant economic potential in Russia due to our vast territory, diversity of natural resources and biomass volume.
Biotechnology is a highly innovative industry. However in recent years a bigger emphasis was made on such innovative industries as IT and telecommunications, while biotechnology was lagging behind in terms of growth and support.
The importance of biotechnology was recently acknowledged by Russian government and business. Given appropriate governmental support Russia will be able to build a solid foundation for bioeconomy, based on usage of renewable energy sources and products.
